1 in 3

According to www.cancer.org, approximately 1 in 3 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. I vaguely recall seeing a shirt with that statistic on it around the time of my husband’ diagnosis. I also remember seeing that it said “The other two will love someone diagnosed with cancer.” This math unfortunately works in my family. (My gratitude to the anonymous creator of that shirt.)

According to multiple websites, including www.planetcancer.org, approximately 70,000 young people under the age of 40 will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Think of that: those 1 in 3 people are husbands and wives, daughters and sons, brothers and sisters, friends, coworkers and parents to young children. they will face obligations like mortgages, insurance coverage, job retention and college educations. They will have cancer invade their lives physically, emotionally, financially and socially.

And the other who of the 3 will love them and likewise be invaded.
